<head>Collection Overview</head>
<p>The ninth plate cased images are likenesses of Leonidas Marion King (1841-1894), 6th Regiment, N. C. Troops, CSA and wife Mary Yates King (1841-1914) of Wake County, North Carolina (photos dated July, 1865). The two sixth plate cased images are of Captain James H. Smith (1832-1906), Troop G, 2nd Michigan Cavalry, USA, in uniform. After the war Smith lived in Raleigh and became superintendent to the Federal Cemetery. He is buried in the cemetery, and his marker contains the dates March 25, 1832-January 1, 1906. The other two pictures are turn of the century snapshots of Captain Smith and his wife and their son Zeliffe Paul Smith. The collection also contains a copy of Captain Smith's war record copied from <title render="italic">Michigan in the War</title> compiled by Jno. Robertson in 1882. King and Smith were great-grandfathers of Mrs. Dempsey.</p></scopecontent>

<arrangement><head>Arrangement</head><p>The tintypes and snapshots have been placed in a postcard box. Copy negatives have been made for the permanent file.</p></arrangement>
