<head>Collection Overview</head>
<p>These photographic negatives belonged to Frederick Sterling Marshall Gary Jr. (b. July, 1886) of Halifax County, North Carolina. He was the son of Sterling Marshall Gary (1859-1930), for many years clerk of court for Halifax County. The photographs contain many views of the Saint Louis Exposition of 1904, attended by Marshall Gary and his father. Also, the collection contains views of the mountains of West Virginia, Ocean View (beach scenes), views in Halifax County, Washington, D.C., and Niagara Falls. Marshall attended St. Mary's College at Belmont (now Belmont Abbey College), North Carolina, and many of the photographs were taken at this institution or of activities associated with the college. Marshall Gary died on March 26, 1908.</p></scopecontent>

<arrangement><head>Arrangement</head><p>The negatives have been removed from their original photograph album and placed in acid free sleeves. Contact prints have been made of each negative to aid reference. The photographic negatives were left in their original order and placed in numerical order. Part of the negatives were not identified and have been placed in a miscellaneous category.</p></arrangement>
