Collection Overview

The lantern slides contain views of geological features in the Wake County vicinity as well as areas of Western North Carolina. One view is near Garner, one near Wake Forest, another near Raleigh, and one in northeast Wake County. The geological formations in the western part of the state are in the counties of Mitchell and Wilkes. In addition the collection contains one photo of a rock formation near Chapel Hill. The remainder of the slides are pictures of feldspar and kaolin mines in Western North Carolina. There are scenes of the famous McKinney Mine near Spruce Pine and an image of the Salisbury Pink Granite Quarry at Granite Quarry, North Carolina. The slides appear to date from the early 1900s.
