Allen Houston Brock (1920-1999), an antique dealer in Raleigh, collected the images while living in the capital city.

 Collection Overview

The collection contains portraits of African Americans, many unidentified, from Wake County, North Carolina, ca. 1870-1900. Among the images are portraits of a United States military soldier (white) from the Wilmington area and a white woman. The collection also includes a postmortem photograph and a picture of an African-American man in an athletic uniform.
