A letter from Joseph Pearson to K. Millar on acquisition of the twins to return them to their parents.

Transcript of the letter

Dear Sir,

I am in receipt of a letter from you in relation to the purchase of the Carolina twins Christian and Milly joined together by the backbone. This will inform you that I do not wish to sell the parents, neither do they wish me to sell them, but they are very anxious to get the children back and you will confer a special favour on me (and one that will not soon be forgotten) by letting me know as soon as convenient whether or not it can be done and if it can upon what terms. If it be impossible to get them back again, you shall hear from me again as to the sale of the parents, as I would like them to be together, but it is much more desirable to get them back.

Yours very respectfully, Joseph Pearson
