Improvements and repairs were made to about 40 cemeteries, involving grading, building walks and driveways, landscaping and planting. These projects varied in cost from less than $1,000 to over $50,000. Hickory Grove Community Cemetery in Charlotte was graced by one of the finest masonry walls in Mecklenburg County. The project was undertaken in cooperation with the State Highway Department, which provided the cement and sand in consideration for concessions made by the Cemetery Association when a State road passing the point was straightened. The local community supplied the stone for the wall.
